Yeah, I couldn't put a cat down for following it's instincts, and giving it to someone else just displaces the problem. And they do a great job of the hunting we *want* them to do - big fat country rodents that would love to come into our warm house.

We leave food in their dish all the time, they only eat what they need it seems. I was just doing some reading about it and there are a few Aussie products trying to tackle the issue. (One of the sites says bells don't help anyway...) Wonder how these work...

The cat bib looks a bit ridiculous: http://www.catgoods.com/index.html

The 'liberator' collar... sounds American...

That's a tough one. I would strongly encourage you to get rid of your cats, but that's a bit like saying, kill the child who picks flowers. A bit harsh.

Alistair's aunt decided that in order to reduce her cats' abillity to hunt, she overfed them. The fat cats couldn't move as numbly as they once could and thus weren't as successful. I think that she put bells on her cats too, but I'm not sure that we have as many coyotes in the Ottawa Valley.

Indeed. I also thought I was leaving the slow and painful death-by-torture routine. Nope. This morning Leeroy brought in a robin that chirped all over the downstairs while Leeroy toyed with him. It had so few tail and wing feathers there was nothing we could do for it but put it outside.

I think I prefer the old Leeroy, that hunted earth worms because they were more his pace and not too frightening :-)

I don't know if there's anything we can do... I understand if you put a bell on your cat you're making it Coyote-bait.
