Full Moon Frolick at Midnight

(Frolick is such a great word, isn’t it?)

When I lived in New Westminster I’d talk to my Mom and she’d remark on how wonderful last night’s Moon had been and how it had kept her awake. I didn’t really get it. Sure, I might have noticed it was bright and beautiful, but it didn’t seem like a big deal.

Now living in Roberts Creek I can feel the power of the Moon so much more. On some nights of the cycle I step outside of my door and I can’t see my hand in front of my face. Others, like last night, are like stepping onto a stage under a huge floodlight.

Last night, or more precisely this morning, the low tide was at half past midnight and it was an extreme low of 1.24 feet. So, we bundled up and roused the pups for a walk to the beach at 1am.

After crossing the driftwood and rocks (the higher elevations of the beach) we slowly wandered the sandbar while the pups chased each other around and into the shallow waves. We thought we saw phosphorescence in some of the incoming waves. We stepped around starfish. We admired the big, amazing Moon. We counted our blessings.

Tomorrow will be a year since we moved here. It’s finally starting to feel like home.
