What’s wrong with this picture?

I’m trying to find information about appliances available at a major department store. I go to their website and can’t find anything related. In desperation I click the “shop online” tab, even though I don’t really want to shop online, just want information online. (Imagine that. Information. Online.) A search for “dishwasher” returned “We could not find any products which matched your search criteria.” Finally in a moment of frustration I search for something they shouldn’t have. Whaddayaknow. 3 results. Now I’m wondering whatever made the system find matches for that…

dishwashers are bad for the environment, wasting large quantities of water and electricity, o fan of “an inconvenient truth”. having said this, i agree with the illogical composure of many online shopping sites and i also admit to being a bit of an environmental hypocrite myself

You have a good point, Bruce. We were thinking about a smaller model since it’s just the two of us most of the time. But I will think about this a bit more.

I’ve been frustrated with spending a lot of time doing dishes when I feel like I could be doing other things. On the other hand, the view from the kitchen window, behind the sink, is beautiful. Maybe I should just enjoy the positive aspects of doing dishes now that I will have more spare time.

I feel like I can’t make the ‘right’ environmental and ethical choices all of the time. Like if I stop to think about every little thing I become somewhat paralyzed, depressed and overwhelmed.

i know what you mean, none of us are perfect and being depressed and overwhelmed contribute NOTHING positive, which is far worse than having a dishwasher. sorry,i didnt mean to sound do judgey.

Oh no, no need to be sorry. I’m glad you brought it up. I know that it’s next to impossible to have a zero-impact footprint, unless I try to turn myself into some kind of nomadic gatherer modeled on ancient peoples very far removed from my experience. (Is that even possible, in Canada, today?) So it’s just a matter of choosing what actions I can live with both practically and environmentally, striking the best balance I can.
