Scott Berkun, Myth of Innovation

Last night I attended Scott Berkun‘s lecture covering some of the topics from his book The Myth of Innovation (thanks, VanUE!). It was enlightening and a good laugh. Mostly the discussion was around the perceptions of innovation (epiphany, genious, etc.) versus the historical reality (lots of sweat, hard work, and collaboration). I recommend you see Scott if the chance arises.

Since I enjoyed his talk I looked at his website and found this essay on motivation. A snippet:

Trick: Imagine yourself on your deathbed once a week (It can be fun: think Mexican Day of the dead). Ask, what will I regret not having done if knew I was going to die today? Make a list and get to work.

Hmm… I suddenly feel like I should be making more art.
