Seam Carving: proof that programmers are cool

The video below is an amazing demo of “Seam Carving” or content-aware image resizing. You kinda have to see it to understand. But this is the kind of thing that makes me think programmers are cool. Or at least, can do cool stuff :P As a designer who’s had to pass up great stock photography because the scale wasn’t quite right, I find this really exciting.

…And as a person aware of how media “wags the dog”, I’m also thinking of the dark possibilities of such technology. Though I guess it’s not much different from the incredibly true-to-life CGI that’s coming out of Hollywood these days…
