Bill Moggridge Lecture at Emily Carr

On Thursday I attended Bill Moggridge’s jam-packed lecture at Emily Carr. He has such a wealth of experience to share and he did so with imagery, video, and humour.

I intended to write a nice little summary of the lecture - but since this summary of another lecture pretty well mirrors my notes, I won’t bother. I will say that the short video of a Japanese woman attempting to buy soda using her iMode phone, a task that takes 35 minutes, is rather amusing. It’s also a beautiful illustration of why prototyping and user testing is so important.

On a more personal note, I was a bit veklempt from being at Emily Carr… sometimes I miss the good old days of being an art student, devoting the majority of my time to purely creative pursuit. Then I remember having to make up justifications (seeped in art theory) to explain my motivations for making a piece of art when, sometimes, I simply felt like it. Then I remember why I was in a hurry to graduate :-)
